How soon can I walk on a new turf lawn?

Keep off it for two to three weeks so the roots knit into the soil. After that, light use is fine; treat it gently through the first full growing season.

Will a new lawn cope with our clay soil?

Yes, if it is prepared for it. On heavy clay we improve drainage and add a suitable rootzone before laying, which prevents the waterlogging that kills lawns laid straight onto clay.

Turf or artificial grass, which do you recommend?

We install natural lawns. Artificial grass suits very shaded, heavily used or zero-maintenance situations, but a well-prepared natural lawn is cooler, better for wildlife and usually our recommendation where conditions allow.

We strip the old surface, correct the levels, address compaction and drainage, then add a quality rootzone or topsoil so roots have somewhere to go. On heavy local clay this step is what stops a lawn waterlogging and dying back each winter.

Turf or seed, the honest comparison

Cultivated turf gives an instant, usable lawn and suits most family gardens. Seed is cheaper and lets you choose a specific grass blend, but needs patience and protection while it germinates. We will tell you which genuinely suits your garden and budget rather than upselling.
