Decking — Timber & Composite

Decking can turn an awkward slope or a tired lawn into the most-used part of a garden, but only if the frame underneath is built correctly. A deck is a structure, not a surface, and the joists, posts and ventilation matter far more than the boards everyone notices.

Decking — Timber & Composite

The frame does the work

We build decks on a treated, correctly spaced sub-frame fixed to solid posts on concrete footings, with airflow underneath so it never rots from below. Properly spaced joists are why a good deck feels rock-solid underfoot instead of bouncing.

Composite or timber

Composite boards cost more upfront but never need oiling, won't splinter and hold their colour, which suits busy families. Natural hardwood and softwood are warmer underfoot and cheaper to install but want annual care. We fit both and will give you the honest trade-off.

Designed around your garden

We set levels so the deck meets your doors cleanly, work in steps, balustrades and integrated lighting where they help, and detail the edges so the finish looks built-in rather than bolted-on.

How the work runs

  1. 1

    Plan & level

Set heights against your doors and the garden, and design the layout.

  2. 2

    Footings & frame

Concrete posts and a treated, correctly spaced joist frame.

  3. 3

    Board & finish

Lay composite or timber boards with neat fixings and edge detail.

  4. 4

    Extras

Add steps, balustrades or lighting and clean the site down.

Decking questions

Frequently asked questions

If you want to avoid annual sanding and oiling, yes. Composite costs more to buy but needs only an occasional wash, won't splinter or rot, and holds its colour, so over ten years it often works out cheaper than maintained timber.
